Kilgus Received summary form Benzonia Township Assessor all is completed, paying extra for being assessed first was worthwhile for the Village tax roll letter received from a retired Postmaster concerning the closing of smaller community Post Offices information given for what local communities can do rural delivery will be taken over by the Village of Benzonia Post Office on May 4 th Beulah Post Office is profitable discussion ensued petitions will be located in businesses Kinzel will write letter for Council to our legislators
Communication to Council:
ZA Lennox Reviewed zoning report received by Council letters have been sent out for violations new sign approved for Century 21 building Planning Commission to work on Sign Ordinance
Benzie Bus brochures distributed for millage renewal of 0 .5 mills for 5 years on ballot, May 3 rd
Vicki Carpenter discussed Library Millage which will be on the Ballot, May 3 rd Beulah pays a library tax of 0.8684 mills and Benzonia a tax of 0.7620 mills the new millage would be assessed by Benzonia Township at a rate of 0.6 mills reducing the tax rate for both the Village of Beulah and Benzonia materials were distributed, including a document You Can Help for people who live in the Township to contact residents to encourage support
Treasurers report reviewed Motion by Siderman, support by Hook to accept report All Ayes MOTION CARRIED
Water/Sewer Chairman Kilgus: Water break in RV Park repaired consider replacing line clog in sewer line removed Motion by Kilgus, support by Hansen to approve $2,250.00 to Gosling Czubak foe Water System improvements Roll Call: AYES: Kinzel, Hook, Pallin, Kilgus, Hansen, Siderman NAYES NONE MOTION CARRIED
Mark Hurley of Gosling Czubak gave an update on well progress on schedule but tight presented draw #4 from Peerless-Midwest in the amount of $32,917.50 Motion by Kinzel, support by Kilgus to approve draw Roll Call: AYES: Pallin, Kilgus, Hansen, Siderman, Kinzel, Hook NAYES NONE MOTION CARRIED
Telemetry for the well houses will be implemented study to be completed in mid-May well project to be completed May 1 st Mark will be getting quotes/bids for other possible projects based on funding availability
Law/Finance Chairperson Hansen: The auditors were in on March 28 and 29 Village status is good changes in personnel at JL Stephen (our accountants) monthly financial reports will be forthcoming
Building/Grounds Chairman Siderman: New flag in the Park new ceiling in the Village Council room project done by the Village crew in reference to camera for Trailhead building Village not to pursue at this time, can be added later will check on a window for the maintenance room
Parks/Rec Chairman Pallin: Will be attending Betsie Valley Trailhead meeting and Swimmers Itch Committee Swimmers Itch Signs will be placed at no charge to the Village will reline the RV Park
Equipment Chairman Hook: Potential equipment difficulties U-joint and possible turbo on truck
Streets/Sidewalks Chairman Kinzel: Inventory by Consumers on Village streetlights will be another 6-8 weeks Planning Commission had first meeting no action taken reviewed things to study and address Nikki Lennox had great input went to Lansing for the signing of the DNR Funds lines placed for dock placement discussion ensued 20 docks will be placed 40 feet on center instead of 50 feet
Superintendent Moore: Need to meet with Pallin on purchasing new swim buoys some 55 gallon trash cans may need to be replaced fire hydrants will be flushed next week discussion on leveling beach and removing grass at water line
Public Input:
Dan Smith Skateboard Article given to council members a community was sued for skateboard injury bringing this to Council's attention there are occurrences with skateboarders in the Village suggest summer sheriff focus on the problem
